A Legacy Honoring Service Through Craftsmanship and Family Tradition
In the summer of 2022, during a conversation with his daughter Phoebe, a serving member of the REME, the idea of creating a family rum brand began to take shape. By chance, Steve’s coaching work brought him into collaboration with a local distillery, and the vision quickly turned into a plan.
As the development of the first rum, 5 and 20, progressed, Steve shared his ideas with his family, leading to a surprising connection. His brother-in-law, Marcus, a talented designer based in Perth, joined the project, transforming the label and bringing the brand to life. With Marcus’s professional touch, the entire production evolved into a family endeavour, and Valour Rum was born.Valour Rum was born from a deep connection to military service and a passion for craftsmanship. Steve Gaskell, a veteran of the Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment, served 28 years in the British Army, starting his career in 1985 and retiring as a Captain in 2013.
It was during his first operational tour in Belize that Steve discovered his love for rum, a passion that stayed with him throughout his service.
The journey didn’t stop there. Inspired by Steve’s Army heritage, the first rum, 5 and 20 Spiced Rum, was crafted as a tribute to the British Army.
From there, the family expanded the brand to include two additional rums:
5 Bells, a Navy Rum honouring the Royal Navy and 5 Clouds, a White Rum for the Royal Air Force.
Each bottle embodies the values of precision, dedication, and honour, reflecting the family’s commitment to excellence and their proud military roots.
